Despite being a town of over 23000 residents which has had an athletics club in existence for almost forty years, East Grinstead still has no athletics track. For many years, Sackville School was used and for the last 15 years, an athletics training facility at Imberhorne School has been used. But never has the club had somewhere it can call home.
Without a track, the club has produced countless county champions, had many athletes represent the club in national championships and has produced athletes that have gained international representative honours. Imagine what East Grinstead could do with a full athletics track ? Not a track for the club. Not a track for the schools. But a track for everyone in East Grinstead and all the surrounding villages.
Is there a demand for a track ? East Grinstead Athletics Club regularly has a waiting list of athletes but constrained by the limited facilities the club has access to. The new East Grinstead Athletics Academy is growing in numbers but again, constrained by facilities. Since 2012, the club has already more than doubled its number of available coaches – people dedicated to offering children and adults alike the chance to enjoy the benefits athletics has to offer.
Can you help ? In the beginning, we’re simply looking for support. By liking our Facebook page you help give us the hope that we can work with the various councils and organisations needed to show them what East Grinstead wants and needs.
